Autobiography

My story begins in the vibrant city of Chicago, where I was born before life carried me across cultures, languages, and experiences that shaped who I am today. Although Chicago was my birthplace, my roots run deep in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, the land of my parents and the heartbeat of my family.

I spent my earliest years in Chicago, but 0n October 10, 1966, my family returned to Puerto Rico, where I continued my childhood surrounded by the culture, warmth, and beauty of the island. I grew up with nine siblings and two extraordinary parents who, despite limited material wealth, gave us something far greater—love, unity, faith, and unbreakable family bonds. We didn’t have everything, but we had enough, because we had each other.

In Puerto Rico, I attended La Segunda Unidad de Pugnado Afuera, and those years strengthened my connection to the island and introduced me to oil painting. However, in 1971, life shifted again, and at the age of fifteen, I returned to Chicago. There, I completed my secondary education at Tuley High School, marking the beginning of an academic and professional path that would guide much of my life.

Determined to grow, I pursued higher education and earned both a bachelor’s degree and a Project Management Certification from DePaul University. My career took shape within the City of Chicago, where I dedicated 32 years of service as an IT Project Manager. Over those decades, I helped modernize systems, lead teams, and support city operations—work I carried out with pride, discipline, and gratitude.

Outside of my professional life, I cultivated skills that allowed my creativity to shine. I learned silversmithing, goldsmithing, lapidary arts, and even gem faceting and stone setting. I am also an oil painter, expressing color, emotion, and spirituality through canvas. These crafts became more than hobbies; they became extensions of who I am.

My journey, like all others, has included challenges and setbacks. But I learned early on that hardship can be a compass—guiding us, shaping us, and teaching us how to survive and grow. My life stands as proof that resilience, faith, and love can carry us through anything.

Today, I am retired and living in Puerto Rico for most of the year, enjoying the peace of the island and painting its breathtaking beaches, culture, and landscapes. It feels like life has brought me full circle—back to the island that raised my spirit.

Of all my accomplishments, the one I hold closest to my heart is the family God blessed me with and the strong faith that has guided me every step of the way. I am proud of the life I have lived, the lessons I have learned, and the love that has surrounded me from the beginning.

My story is still unfolding, but I carry it with gratitude—knowing that every chapter has been a gift.
